Hi ya there everyone,

I’ve got some big announcements to make. First off, we’ve gotten all the bits and bytes lined up to offer our Knit Kits for sale online. Just mosey on over to our shop to order away. Since the kits come in a large assortment of unique colors, make a note in the “Order Notes” for a color preference and we’ll do our best to match.

And just to serve as another link, here are our online instructional videos for learning the techniques of knitting.

Second, we’ve got a crazy fun weekend coming up this week. This weekend, October 8-10, is both the Austin City Limits music festival and the Hill Country Yarn Crawl.

For ACL, we are going to be setting up inside the festival grounds as a part of the HOPE Farmer’s Market stand. This ACL version of HOPE will be located on the north side of Zilker Park, close to the sand volleyball pits. The hours will be 11:00 am – 8:00pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We’ll only have our Knit Kits for sale inside ACL. You must have a pass to the ACL fest to get inside. If you’re not attending ACL but still want yarn, head on over to Hill Country Weavers for the Yarn Crawl.

For the Hill Country Yarn Crawl, we’ll be setting up shop at Hill Country Weavers on S. Congress. We’ll be offering our Knit Kits, as well as a sneak-peak opportunity to purchase our brand-new line of recycled cashmere. The cashmere fiber is reclaimed from cashmere sweaters and respun by the fine folks out at Sustainable Fibers in Elgin. The end result is a DK weight yarn with a 75% recycled cashmere / 25% merino fiber content. For the Yarn Crawl, we’ll only have limited quantities of two colors… it’s definitely a sneak-peak!

And of course, we’ll have our yarn and Knit Kits for sale at the usual HOPE Farmer’s Market on Sundays at the 4th and Waller location.

Whew! Lotsa stuff happening. This is the busiest weekend Yarn Harvest has had in a long time. And as fate would have it… I’m going to be out of the state for the whole weekend! My brother is getting married to a wonderful woman in Savannah, GA. I politely asked him to put off the whole wedding for a week or two for my sake, but alas, he wouldn’t budge. Hehe, rightly so I must say.

So, Yarn Harvest will be represented by my friends Candace and Ashley at ACL and Hill Country Weavers respectively. Say hi to them for me!

I leave you with a picture of the cashmere. Mmmmmm…. so soft….

Greg

We’re proud to announce the arrival of our Yarn Harvest Knit Kits. Many, many hours went into its planning and design and we think they are worth every second spent. The kits come with a full hank of our recycled wool yarn, a pair of bamboo needles, a tapestry needle, and patterns for either a scarf or headbands and smart-phone sleeves.

We will be selling Knit Kits this Sunday, September 26, at the HOPE Farmer’s Market. We wanted to make sure that everyone that stuck with us through the hot summer got first dibs at the kits. After HOPE, we’ll be adding the Knit Kits to our online products. I’ll make another blog posting when this happens. Shouldn’t be too long though.

And as part of the kits, we’ve added an instructional video page to our website. I ended up in front of the camera for the first video, and oh boy, it’s weird seeing and hearing myself in a video. I must admit that I don’t like what I sound like on camera, but people say that’s what everyone feels like their first time. Overall, though, not too shabby for my first ever youtube video.

Your really, really happy to offer Knit Kits finally writer…

We are very excited to announce that we are creating a Knitting Starting Kit. We often hear from people at HOPE Farmer’s Market that although they don’t know how to knit now, they would love to learn how . As I am new to knitting myself, I can understand that it definitely is a little intimidating to launch into the knitting world on your own.

Soooo, we are working to create a Knitting Starting Kit, which will include a full skein of 126-yards of yarn, a pair of needles, and a set of beginner’s instructions…. everything needed to start out knitting. We’re still working on a lot of the details, but we hope to be able to offer it before Spring gets too far along.

And speaking of Spring, the Spring edition of Edible Austin has hit newsstands and there is a wonderful article about Yarn Harvest in it. It even has a picture of the first koozie I ever made, complete with a local micro brew in it. Needless to say, quite exciting stuff.

Your looking forward to Spring Yarn Harvester,

Greg
